Report highlights CT clinical trials

Eastern Connecticut Hematology & Oncology and Comprehensive Psychiatric Care, both in Norwich, are among the 180 medical facilities in the state currently conducting clinical drug trials, according to a report released Thursday by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.

The report, "Research in Your Backyard: Pharmaceutical Clinical Trials in Connecticut," said drug companies are planning or already have conducted more than 2,000 studies of new medicines in the state over the past 13 years.

More than half of the current tests involve new cancer drugs. Heart medicines, currently undergoing 10 trials, also have been a staple of research here.
