MGM Resorts International and a real estate trust will donate $250,000 to a capital fund for the renovation of a community center in Brimfield, Mass., the town where MGM Resorts had proposed developing a casino.

MGM Resorts announced last week that it was abandoning the Brimfield project.

"MGM has been treated with the utmost hospitality and respect in Brimfield," Bill Hornbuckle, MGM's chief marketing officer, said in announcing the gift for Hitchcock Academy, a former schoolhouse.

"We plan on being in Western Massachusetts for a long time, and we are eager to continue our great relationship with this town and its neighbors."
