Every year, The Day asks readers to create dioramas using Peeps candies for our annual Peeps Art Contest. This year's contest, sponsored by Children's Dental Associates of New London County and Eastern Connecticut Ballet, brought in an assortment of creative news and pop culture references, including a pair of Whitney Houston dioramas, several Angry Peeps scenes and many movie references.
Editors narrowed the field down to a handful of favorites, and the public voted on the winner in the adult and children's categories. In the adult category, Jack Fields of Taftville won a $100 Peeps prize pack for his portrayal of Peeps students taking their Connecticut Mastery Tests. The attention to detail from the teacher's tiny wire glasses to the city scene outside the classroom windows won over both the judges and the public.
In the children's category (12 years old and younger), Margit Burgess of Mystic won a $25 Peeps prize pack for her Peeps Occupy Wall Street display. Her Peeps held picket signs and mini iPads while protesting around a bonfire in the city.
