It was a rough outing for the East Haven boys' outdoor track squad as it dropped its latest three contests to Cheshire (139-9), Law (140-7), and Fairfield Prep (114-24) at an April 17 meet. Top point scorers were junior Ed Gaites with 22 points, junior Marc Cacioppo with 13, plus sophomores Brady Reynolds and Ralph Colon with one point each.
The best performances for the Yellowjackets were achieved from Gaites, who took first in the triple jump (30-4½) and high jump (5-0) versus Fairfield Prep. Cacioppo earned the top spot versus Prep in the pole vault and was second versus both Law and Cheshire with a personal best of 9-6. Gaites also came in second in the 110 high hurdles (21.1).
"We went to the meet with only six athletes," East Haven Head Coach Rusty Dunne said. "The three teams we competed against all had 50 athletes each, and versus numbers like that, you don't have the opportunity to win. The nice thing about our sport is that we can still qualify for states with individual achievements. Our guys competed hard. They work hard in practice and always put their best foot forward."
