Brett Bernardini, founding artistic director and CEO of the Spirit of Broadway Theater, says that audiences have "come to expect the exceptional" from Sean Hartley. The Norwich theater has staged three of Hartley's works before, including the Drama Desk Award-nominated "Cupid & Psyche" and "Little Women."
And they're returning to Hartley's musicals again. Spirit of Broadway is performing "Number the Stars," for which Hartley wrote the book, music and lyrics. Based on the Newberry Award-winning book of the same title, this tale is about the rescue of Danish Jews during WWII and how one 10-year-old tries to help her friend escape to neutral Sweden.
Hartley, by the way, will actually be at the Spirit of Broadway for a Meet the Writer VIP Party Saturday. The night includes a 7:30 p.m. reception, then an 8 p.m. performance, followed by dessert and coffee. The total cost is $60 - call the theater to reserve a spot.
