The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, at the U.N., recently noted that the most important factor for success was the right to self-determination. Persons with disabilities and those who support them should determine how they will spend their own benefits and have always made these choices by themselves.
What they do not need is unions, on the premise of "improving things," stepping in the middle, skimming the Connecticut Medicaid waiver for union dues and fees. This will take monies now used for direct care services and add a needless layer of costs, thus reducing available funds for services. Gov. Malloy in backing such a bill clearly does not understand the negative impact.
These families walk the walk each and every day. the governor does not.
We all want to respect the dignity for workers and self-determination of those whom are served. This is a political play by the governor to garner clout from the SEIU for political ends.
I would very much appreciate everyone's support in blocking HB 5312. Please make one phone call to your state senator and ask them to repeal HB 5312.
Click www.cga.ct.gov/maps/townlist.asp; find your town and click on the 2nd column over from that to find your senator.
