New London — On Sunday, New London will celebrate the second annual Neighbor Day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Riverside Park.
Neighbor Day began in Westerly in 1993 in response to a fatal teen stabbing in that community. The theme of Neighbor Day is nonviolence and “Love thy Neighbor.” Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio, who served on the Westerly Town Council, and New London resident Lorain Ohio Simister, founded the local event last year.
There will be food vendors, music and family activities. Music will be provided by Chris Castle, The Weird Beards, the Meadow Bros., The Ohio-Freer Collective and The Kente Percussion Ensemble. Dance troops will perform and artists will be displaying their works.
The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by private donations and volunteer efforts. No public funds are being used.
