George Kent leads last classical concert with Chorus of Westerly

Ours is a country where the core idea of an individual leaving a body of work behind has been integral to our development.

Today? Hmm. Well, today it seems the idea of a deathbed legacy is to proudly say, "In my life, I saw every episode of 'Khloe and Lamar.'"

Thank you, then, George Kent.

After 500 concerts, 100 choral works and dozens of premieres, Kent, the longtime music director of the Chorus of Westerly, will conduct on Sunday the last classical concert of his inspiring career - in the performance hall that bears his name. (Kent's final farewell takes place with the Chorus' annual Summer Pops concert on June 23.)

The chorus, along with the Boston Festival Orchestra and soloists Carmen Pelton (soprano) and Kevin Short (bass-baritone), will present two performances of Brahms' Requiem. This should be a fine exclamation point on Kent's legacy, and an appropriately emotional event.
