I have always liked sports and even played a few when I was a kid. I enjoy photographing sports as part of my job. It’s great when it’s a beautiful day and I can shoot an entire game without worrying about deadlines or having to rush off to another assignment a short time into a game. However, nothing can be more miserable than freezing on the sidelines during a night football game in winter with your fingers and toes going numb -- or, like Tuesday, when I was standing in the rain shooting lacrosse. It gets to the point where even with rain covers designed to protect the camera equipment, at some point everything becomes saturated, everything you touch is damp and a chill sets into your bones while you stand still on the sidelines. Maybe it’s because I grew up in the desert, but in these weather conditions late into the game I am always thinking, “Am I the only one who thinks this is crazy?”
