Police talk man down from Mystic River drawbridge

Mystic - Stonington and Groton Town police were able to convince a 47-year-old Mystic man to come down from atop the Mystic River drawbridge after he climbed the structure early this morning.

Stonington Police Capt. Jerry Desmond said the man was upset about an issue and climbed the span about 1 a.m. He remained on the structure above the roadway for about 40 minutes. After he came down he was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for evaluation. He was not injured.

Desmond commended officers for getting the man to come down without injury. Mystic River ambulance and the Mystic Fire Department also responded to the incident.
