Griswold — Top-seeded Waterford High School won the Eastern Connecticut Conference softball tournament championship on Friday night with a surprisingly easy 14-2 victory over Stonington.
The Lancers (22-1) needed nine innings to pull out a 2-0 victory over the No. 2 Bears just two days ago, but dominated from the start in the title game.
Kelli Connors, playing the final game of her illustrious ECC career, pitched a five-hitter for the victory and also helped jump start Waterford's offense early with a two-run triple in a three-run first.
Alyssa Hancock had a bases-clearing triple during an eight-run fifth that broke the game wide open.
Should the state intervene in the New London school system?
