Heart-attack prevention effort kicks off today at Wolf Den

Mohegan - The local launch of the Million Hearts national initiative to prevent one million heart attacks and strokes will take place at 10:30 a.m. today at the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den.

Christie Hager, region 1 director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will be joined at the event by Mohegan Tribal Chief Lynn Malerba and Mohegan Sun President and Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Hartmann. It is intended for Mohegan Sun employees and the public.

Resource tables staffed by Medical Reserve Corps volunteers will provide cholesterol and blood pressure screenings and prevention information. Walgreens, Anthem Blue Cross and the American Heart Association are supporting the event.

Million Hearts is a national initiative to prevent one million heart attacks and strokes over five years by bringing together communities, health systems, nonprofit organizations, federal agencies and private-sector partners. For information, visit: http://millionhearts.hhs.gov/index.html.
