New London — Police charged a local man Saturday with assaulting his girlfriend’s pregnant daughter.

Rudy Hernandez, 38, of 58 West St., was charged with second-degree assault on a pregnant woman and disorderly conduct.

Lt. Todd Bergeson said Hernandez was upset because the 20-year old pregnant woman was being disrespectful to her mother. Hernandez went into the victim’s room, ripped a CD player out of the wall, and struck her in the back with a belt. She did not require medical attention. Bergeson said Hernandez was released on a $10,000 bond.
