Niantic man charged with taking car

Montville police arrested a Niantic man early today after they found him hiding in the woods after allegedly taking a car in East Lyme.

Matthew Kelly, 39, of 215 Main St., Apt. 119, Niantic, was charged with driving with a suspended license, improper parking, criminal impersonation and interfering with an officer.

State police said that on Route 82, Montville police found a hazardous abandoned motor vehicle, which was reportedly taken without permission from East Lyme. They said there was also a warrant for Kelly's arrest for first-degree escape. State police had no other information about that charge.

A State Police K-9 team found him hiding in the woods nearby. He is being held on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Norwich Superior Court Monday.
