Ledyard Lions Club presents scholarships, awards, installs new officers.

The Ledyard Lions recently presented scholarships to nine Ledyard students totaling $9,000. Lion Guy Mendenhall presented the awards June 5th at the Ledyard High School Award Ceremony. This culminates a year in which Ledyard Lions raised and donated approximately $40,000 to local and global needs including $10,000 to Holiday Shopping for Ledyard families in need.

Additionally, the club honored members during its Awards Night June 7 at the Gales Ferry Firehouse. The following award recipients:

Melvin Jones Fellow (Lions Clubs International Foundation highest recognition)to Teresa Novic

Ambassadors of Sight (District 23C highest award)to Walter Keach and Guy Mendenhall III

Lion of the Year to Laura Rowe

President Award Medal (Members who have distinguished themselves through outstanding service)to Lions Walter Keach, John Langle, Agnes Dodge, Lorraine Barron, and Kathie Batson.

Quarter Century Award (Members with over 25 years of service)to Lions Gordon Thomson (40 years), Ernest Plantz (30 years), Peter Olsen, and Roger Van Dyke

Ledyard Lions will hold their 53rd Installation of Officers and Board Members at Ocean Beach Park, New London, CT on June 14th. Immediate Past District 23C Governor Denise Dudek will install: President Walter Keach; 1st Vice President Harry Williamson; 2nd Vice President Bob Lloyd; 3rd Vice President Kathie Batson; Secretary Beverly Howard; Treasurer Debra Perry; Tail Twister Leo Barron, Lion Tamer David Signs; Directors John Langle, Roger Van Dyke, Jim Weber, Ernie Crandall, Linda Howard, John Gowitzke; Membership Chair Laura Rowe, and Immediate Past President Teresa Novic
