Shore Line East trains added for OpSail weekend

New London — Twenty-three additional Shore Line East trains will run between New London and New Haven during OpSail weekend, July 6-8.

Five trains will be added to the usual Shore Line East weekday commuter schedule on Friday, July 6, the first day of the tall ships event, to accommodate the kickoff of Sailfest. The city's street festival is taking place the same weekend.

Special Saturday and Sunday trains are scheduled throughout the day for the start of OpSail, leaving New Haven roughly every two hours starting at 9:10 a.m. On Saturday, a Fireworks Special train back to New Haven will depart at 11 p.m. after the Sailfest fireworks display.

The full schedule can be found on the state Department of Transportation's Shore Line East website, www.shorelineeast.com, and on the Shore Line East/One More Stop Coalition's website, www.onemorestop.net. Printed schedules will be available through the Shore Line East Coalition and at Union Station during the OpSail/Sailfest events.

The one-way fare from New Haven to New London for an adult is $8.50. Children under 11 ride free.
