Coast Guard Band to perform July 7

New London— The U.S. Coast Guard Band performs an outdoor concert at Fort Trumbull State Park on July 7 at 7 p.m.

Cmdr. Kenneth Megan leads the band in an exciting performance followed by a fireworks display in conjunction with OpSail 2012. The program features familiar patriotic tunes and other works celebrating the seafaring traditions of New England.

Soloists include percussionist Musician First Class Christopher Smith performing “The Golden Age of the Xylophone” and soprano soloist Musician First Class Megan Weikleenget singing “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “America the Beautiful.” The concert, which includes marches by John Philip Sousa, also features traditional jazz by the Coast Guard Dixieland Band.
