Area law enforcement departments throughout the region are preparing for the Fourth of July holiday with officers focused on stopping drinking and driving.
Extra patrols will be out on the streets in Waterford next week through the July 4 holiday, police said Thursday.
The extra officers will be part of a DUI enforcement team out between 5 p.m. and 4 a.m. each night. Police said speeding and other violations will also be strictly enforced.
Norwich police have also announced a DUI sobriety checkpoint on July 3. Police did not specify the times or place.
