Imagine my confusion reading The Day's June 22 editorial, "Fast, furious follies," condemning the call for an inquiry into the failed operation by the ATF named Fast and Furious. This newspaper, which has stood as the bastion of exposing all forms of government wrongdoing, and a paragon of Freedom of Information virtue, now mocks Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., for "politicizing" this issue.
Your facts are slightly skewed.
You are correct in asserting that Attorney General Holder turned over 7,600 documents in response to the supoena, but neglected that this only represents less than 10 percent of the 80,000 documents pertaining to this operation. This newspaper has no interest in what the other 72,000 pages contain? Really?
The president's decision to invoke executive privilege elicited nary a response from you, although it certainly suggests a coverup, otherwise why not be forthright with the release of the documents? I was most intrigued by your suggestion that the Teapot Dome and Watergate scandals compare to Fast and Furious. Although both represent stains on the two Republican administrations you conveniently chose, both pale in comparison to the loss of a federal officer, and the many Mexican people who have been slaughtered as a result of a "misguided" operation.
Investigate, and now.
