Twenty eight CAC swimmers attended their third meet of the 2012 Long Course swim season. The meet, sponsored by The Aquabears, a Windsor, CT based US Swim Club, was held on the UConn Storrs campus in the Universityís 6 lane; 50 meter competition pool. Competition started on Friday 6/15 and completed Sunday evening, 6/17.
On Saturday of the event, in addition to individual competition, CAC fielded 3 relay teams. This provided to be a real test for the swimmers and a very exciting event for the spectators and parents in attendance. Swimming against very tough competition, CAC relay teams had one second place finish and two third place finishes.
The combined talents of Emily Tran, Lea Janz, Asia Langley and Michelle Saracovan secured the silver medal spot in the Girls 13-14 Medley Relay; with a 2:26.63. Emily Tranís picture perfect form in the lead-off backstroke leg positioned her teammates to bring home this silver finish. Lea Janz swam the breaststroke leg, Asia Langley the butterfly, and Michelle Saracovan brought the team home with the freestyle.
The Girls 15-Over team of Cat Ward, Julia Gavin, Jess Hespeler, and Katy Franzone brought home the bronze in a fiercely competitive 200 Medley Relay. Cat Wardís strong 50 backstroke positioned swimmers Gavin, Hespeler, and Franzone to hammer out a photo-finish to secure the 3rd place medal. The teamís time was 2:25.44.
Abby Vetrovecís final 50 free brought cheering parents to their feet as she secured the bronze medal spot for the Girls 10 and Under 200 Medley Relay Team. Emma McCall blasted the lead off backstroke, Hannah Benavides blazed the breaststroke, and Hope Sowle boiled thru the fly and then held their breath only to burst out in cheers as Abby touched out their competition for the bronze finish. The teamís time was 3:00.38.
Congratulations to these swimmers for a job well done. Your tough competitive spirit and your sportsmanship to the other teams is a credit to yourselves and to CAC.
