Norwich - Back in May, when the Republican Town Committee could not find a candidate for the 46th District state House of Representatives race, RTC secretary Mikel Middleton put his name on the ballot as a "place holder."
Middleton now plans to make his candidacy official on Wednesday with an announcement at 5 p.m. at Norwich City Hall that he will run for the seat being vacated by 10-year incumbent Democrat Melissa Riley.
Riley's husband, Emmett Riley, is the Democratic candidate in the district that covers the urban and southern portions of Norwich.
Middleton said in a press release that he decided to run because the state Democratic administration "is not working for the people," and the Democratic Party also controls both the state House and Senate
"The current leaders of our state have become self-serving, they ignore public interests and have raised the cost of living and taxes to the point that businesses and people are moving out of the state," Middleton said.
