Ocean Beach to host Amica 19.7 mile triathlon on Sunday

The Hartford Marathon Foundation will hold its Third Annual Amica 19.7 mile Triathlon on Sunday at New London's Ocean Beach.

The event, which begins at 7 a.m., is expected to draw more than 500 athletes. The triathlon includes a half-mile swim, 16.1 mile bike rid and 3.1 mile run.

The swim will be a triangular course that will start and finish on the beach.

The bike ride will loop through the oceanfront streets of New London and Waterford, and its long straight-aways on flat, sea level roads makes the course popular with both experienced riders and beginners.

The run is also a loop completely along Pequot Ave. and its ocean views before finishing back on the sand at Ocean Beach.
