Classic boats, music, tours part of latest New London weekend lineup

'Don't Miss the Boat' set for this weekend

New London - "Don't Miss the Boat," a two-day lineup of music, boats and lighthouse tours, will be held this weekend at Waterfront Park and The Parade Plaza.

Michael Passero, City Council president, said in a release that the event was "a way to keep the momentum and excitement of the OpSail/Sailfest going a little longer."

Bay State Woodies, a chapter of The Antique and Classic Boat Society, will display the classic boats from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

On Saturday and Sunday, the New London Harbor light will be open for tours with boats leaving from the Custom House Pier. Call (860) 447-2501 for more information.

The Schooner Mystic Whaler will be offering one-hour harbor sails Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sails are $20 per person, and sign-up is dockside at City Pier. Free tours of the deck will also be available from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

The Saturday night lobster dinner on the Whaler is sold out, but reservations can still be made for Friday by calling (800) 697-8420 or visiting www.mysticwhaler.com.

The mini tug TooT TooT, which is 14 feet, 3 inches long, will be on display Saturday and Sunday at Waterfront Park.

The Nimble Arts Circus gives free performances on The Parade Plaza at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

On Sunday, a concert will take the stage at City Pier, with Raise the Rent at 1:30 p.m. and two New Orleans bands, Shaka & The SoulShakers and Rebirth Brass Band, at 2:30 p.m.
