New London – A Groton man was arrested late Friday after police said two vehicles were seen racing on the southbound lanes of Gold Star Bridge.

Alex J. Graf, 22, of 165 D St., Groton, was charged with reckless driving with speeds greater than 85 mph, speeding for wager or speed record, improper passing and having an improper muffler at 11:34 p.m. Friday.

State police said two vehicles were seen racing on the bridge, a white Honda Civic driven by Graf and a black car that continued southbound on Interstate 95. Police stopped Graf's car at Exit 84 in New London.

Graf was released on a promise to appear in New London Superior Court on July 23.
