Voting ends tonight for Riverside Park funding

New London — With just a few hours remaining before the close of online polls, supporters of the city’s Riverside Park have reason to believe the park will finish among the top 25 in voting for “America’s Favorite Park.”

Voting in Cocal-Cola’s 3rd annual “America Is Your Park” campaign concludes at 11:59 tonight.

“We’re in pretty good shape,” Corinna Vendetto, a member of the Friends of Riverside group, said tonight.

Riverside cracked the top 25 shortly after noon Friday and moved to No. 24 about 45 minutes later, Vendetto said.

At about 6 p.m. Sunday, Riverside had nearly 310,000 votes, about 30,000 more than the 25th-ranked Fireman’s Park of West Seneca, N.Y.

The top three parks in the voting will receive grants of $100,000, $50,000 and $25,000, respectively. One of the parks finishing fourth through 25th will be chosen at random to receive a $15,000 grant.
