Motorcyclist identified in Waterford crash

Waterford ­— The motorcyclist airlifted Saturday night to Hartford Hospital after his vehicle struck a curb on Old Norwich Road in Quaker Hill is in critical condition, a hospital spokeswoman said Sunday evening.

Police identified the motorcyclist as John Pellegrino, 55, of 138 Old Norwich Road, which is near the site of the crash.

A Life Star helicopter took Pellegrino to Hartford Hospital shortly after the incident occurred at 7:26 p.m. Saturday.

According to police, Pellegrino was headed north on Old Norwich Road when the motorcycle crossed the center line and went through the southbound lane. The motorcycle struck the southbound lane curbing and then re-entered the travel portion of the roadway, at which point Pellegrino was thrown from the motorcycle, police said.
