Construction to start on Mohegans' Pocono Downs racetrack casino

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, the Mohegan Tribe’s Wilkes-Barre, Pa., racetrack casino, will begin building a long-proposed $45 million hotel and convention center next week.

Details of the project will be released Wednesday at a press conference at Pocono Downs, followed by a groundbreaking ceremony, Mohegan Sun officials announced today.

Construction is scheduled to begin next Monday.

Plans for the project call for a seven-story, 238-room hotel and convention space. The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority was to secure the necessary financing and will own and operate the facility.

Bruce “Two Dogs” Bozsum, chairman of the Mohegan Tribal Council; Bobby Soper, president and chief executive officer of Pocono Downs; and Mitchell Etess, chief executive officer of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, will attend.
