Nine Guilford residents received a total of $16,000 in scholarships and no-interest loans from the Guilford Rotary Club Memorial Educational Fund to help pay for educational expenses. The Fund assists Guilford residents attending or planning to attend continuing education programs, job training programs, or college, or graduate schools. This year's recipients include: Kathrine Crabtree-Tulane University; Joseph Gannon-Pennsylvania State University; James Heeren-University of Connecticut Doctor of Physical Therapy Program; Melanie Heeren-Keene State College; Jennifer Laurie-Southern Connecticut State University; Danielle Renchy-University of New Hampshire; Eliza Summerlin-Macalester College; Jessica Tietjen-Dartmouth College Tuck Bridge Program; and Corolinia Trombetta-Yale University.
The Memorial Educational Fund was established in 1966 as a non-profit organization by members of the Guilford Rotary Club. It is funded by Rotary Club contributions, tax-deductible donations from Rotarians and non-Rotarians and from the proceeds of Rotary Club fundraising events such as the Frosty 5K New Year's Day road race, LobsterFest, and other Rotary events.
