I enjoyed the July 3 letter, "What happened to the 'good old days?'" Perhaps if allowed I might go back a bit further in place and in time.
Most of the readers' are aware of where Friendly's Ice Cream on Route 27 does business. Previous to this establishment the area was totally farmland. A gentleman by the name of Timothy Whipple was a farmer and a businessman. Every summer Mr. Whipple would look for young folk to work on his farm - weeding, picking, selling - it didn't matter if you didn't mind the work.
My sister was one of those young people. She worked hard, but was happy to put a few coins in her pocket at the end of the day. Way to go, sis!
