Go ahead and Celebrate East Lyme

What's happening: Celebrate East Lyme returns for its 12th year, starting Saturday with a sand castle competition and ending with a slam-bang finale of fireworks over Niantic Bay.

On the streets: A one-mile stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue and Main Street will be closed to traffic from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday, and it'll be turned into the summer festival site where people can stroll.

Breaking it down: There is much, much going on at Celebrate East Lyme, and here are some samples: "Art & Author Walk" with artists and writers showing their work; raft races at 7 p.m. at Hole-in-the-Wall Beach; lots of live music; community and business vendors; and a children's area with caricatures and a rock-climbing wall.
