The Naval Submarine Base in Groton has returned to normal operations following a lock down order earlier this morning.

The order went into effect at about 9:15 a.m. after security personnel responded to a vehicle entering the base through the outbound lanes at the main gate, according to a release from the base.

The base reopened at 10:45 a.m. following a security sweep. Local authorities were also contacted as part of established protocol. Base officials said they would not immediately release further information because it is part of an ongoing investigation.
