Groton — The Defense Commissary Agency has awarded a contract to build a commissary store at the Naval Submarine Base.

The $14.5 million contract went to KBE Building Corp. of Farmington, Conn. The company has 477 days to complete the contract. Nine companies bid on the project.

“This is excellent news for the sub base and for Connecticut—not only will a new commissary serve our Naval Base well, but the construction contract has gone to a Farmington company — KBE Building Corporation —and will create jobs for Connecticut residents,” Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said in a press release. “This $14.5 million project will be added to the list of over $150 million in other improvements to the base since the 2005 BRAC, and reflects the ongoing efforts of the State’s Office of Military Affairs and our congressional delegation to transform the base into one of the most efficient and effective bases in the Navy.”
