Stonington — A series of three break-ins in the lower Pawcatuck section of town has prompted police to remind residents to be vigilant in locking their homes, garages and cars.

The most recent break-in occurred on River Road last night, but the attempt was thwarted when the suspect realized that someone was at home, Stonington Police Capt. Jerry Desmond said this morning. Whether that person took anything from the home before they were aware that someone was at home is under investigation.

The other two break-ins occurred in the area of Mystic Avenue and Clark Street areas between July 29 and July 31.

A bicycle, valuables and cash were taken from those two homes where the suspect entered through the garage, Desmond said.

Stonington police are asking anyone with information about the burglaries to call Stonington police Detective Sgt. Dave Knowles at (860) 599-4411.

The break-ins are under investigation and police have not released a description of the suspect.
