Worcester, Mass. - Waterford's Senior League softball team advanced to the Eastern Regional semifinals at 10 a.m. today at Ty Cobb Field.

Waterford (2-2), the No. 2 seed in the New England bracket, will meet Milford, Del. (3-1), the top seed in the Mid-Atlantic bracket.

The other semifinal will be played at the same time between New Gloucester, Maine (4-0), and Cumberland County, N.J. (3-1). The semifinal winners will meet at 2 p.m. at Rockwood Field for a berth in the Senior League World Series in Lower Sussex, Del., Aug. 5-11.

Waterford did not play Wednesday, but Maine defeated the host team from Worcester 1-0, making that team 2-2, as well. Waterford defeated Worcester during pool play, owning the tiebreaker.

Also, previously winless Providence topped Westfield, Mass., 9-1, keeping Westfield from the semifinals. With a win, Westfield would have been 2-2 and owned the tiebreaker over Waterford.

The Tigers (17-25) trailed 2-0 early, but tied the game in the fourth inning on a two-run double by Patrick Smith. Charlie Gillies took the loss for Connecticut, allowing just two earned runs on four hits over five innings.
