Pfizer Inc. has sold its former research-and-development center in Sandwich, England, to a private consortium.

The Telegraph of London reports that the sale of Discovery Park will mean Pfizer's 650 current employees at the site will be working in space leased from the consortium Discovery Park Limited.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Pfizer has a 57-year history in Sandwich, where the erectile dysfunction medication Viagra and other drugs were discovered.

Pfizer announced the closure of the Sandwich site last year, which initially put at risk about 2,400 jobs. The company later backtracked, saying it would save 350 jobs in Sandwich.
