Gural accused of inflicting another head injury

Glen Gural, who served 5 1/2 years in prison for killing a man by hitting him over the head with a length of hardwood, has been charged with striking his younger brother in the head with a flashlight.

Gural, 57, is being held in lieu of $55,000 at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center. He is charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and violation of probation.

Gural moved in with his brother in Bozrah after serving 66 months in prison for second-degree manslaughter, according to court documents. On June 6, state police were called to the Gager Road residence by Eric Gural, who said Gural had come into his bedroom, cursed at him, and struck him over the head with a Maglite flashlight.

State Trooper Thomas Fabian reported there was a blood trail leading from the upper floor of the dwelling to the outside of the home. Gural’s brother said Gural had struck him multiple times, but Gural denied hitting him and said the brother was “making it up,” according to the police report.

Gural was on probation at the time of his arrest. He had pleaded guilty to striking James Kelly III on the head with a log on July 22, 2006, outside of Magoo’s II on Jefferson Ave. in New London. A witness told police that Gural struck Kelly because Kelly had not repaid a $50 loan.

Kelly, who was 44, died two weeks later at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital. The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled his death was caused by blunt trauma to the head.
