Groton – A 41-year-old scuba diver was shaken but uninjured after she was pulled out of the water Tuesday evening during dive training off Eastern Point Beach.

The woman was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for observation, but witnesses and bystanders said she would be OK.

A group from Aqua Sports Diving Center was out training around 7 p.m. when the woman panicked underwater and sank, Aqua Sports owner Victor Worst said. An instructor was next to her, another was in a kayak next to the group and others jumped in to help when they learned the woman was in distress, Worst said.

“Things happen but we’re prepared and that’s why she came out fine,” Worst said. “It’s not the first time we’ve had to bring somebody in.”

Groton City fire and police responded. Medics also examined an instructor, who appeared OK but exhausted from the rescue.
