Norwich – An investigation into a possible burglary Friday morning at a home on Laurel Hill Avenue led to a brief police pursuit.
John Kanhai, 34, of 495 Laurel Hill Road, was charged by Norwich police with second-degree breach of peace, engaging an officer in pursuit, reckless driving, resisting arrest and criminal attempt to commit assault on a police officer.
Police said the report came in as a possible burglary but they later discovered that Kanhai was causing a distrubance at his residence.
When police arrived, Kanhai fled in his vehicle. Norwich police initially followed him, but ended the pursuit because he was driving at a high rate of speed. The incident happened around 6:30 a.m.
Kanhai crashed his car in Ledyard, and police there were able to take him into custody.
He resisted arrest and police used a Taser to subdue him, police said.
Kanhai was arraigned Friday in Norwich Superior Court.
