In looking at both candidates in Tuesday's Republican primary for the Second District congressional nomination, Daria Novak already had me with her platform - I just was not sure about her spirit.

Her opponent, Paul Formica, is a moderate and stands on his municipal experience. I decided to attend a forum Aug. 8 and see how these two handle questions from the people.

Formica introduced himself and gave us a rundown of his adult life here in Connecticut. He told of his campaign and his positions of small government and reduced spending.

Novak lit up. She opened with a motivational charge for Republicans in Connecticut and a summary of her qualifications. She declared that it's time to offer solutions and she will work to limit the size of government and its spending.

Novak's answers had depth, clear message of what she will do, and were enthusiastic - a striking contrast to her opponent's own reserved responses. Formica was meek and at times seemed unable to answer questions.

Daria Novak has my confidence, and judging by the applause she received, many others feel she is the strongest candidate to go forth against Rep. Joe Courtney.

Vote Novak on Tuesday.
