Norwich - The CT Pirates Black beat the Shoreline Hammerheads 9-3 to win the Christopher Potvin Memorial Tournament 13U division title Sunday at Dodd Stadium.
Nick Traystman had three hits and scored twice, Isaiah Mack drove in two runs and scored twice, T.T. Bowens scored twice and Josh Bowman drove in two runs for the Pirates. Joel Garcia was the winning pitcher and combined with Hunter Nadeau to pitch a nine-hitter. Bowens was named the team's most valuable player for the tournament.

• Luke Foster pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts to lead the Fewls to a 5-0 win over the Tides. Zach Kane had two hits, Foster doubled and drove in two runs and Bebito Sierra doubled.

• Luis Vega was the winning pitcher, had two hits and scored twice to lead the CT Pirates to a 6-1 win over Glastonbury in pool play. Vega allowed one hit over six innings. Aaron Michaud had two hits and drove in two runs and Kyle Williams drove in two runs for the Pirates.
Tigers fall to IronBirds
• The Aberdeen IronBirds scored two runs in the fourth inning and held on to beat the Connecticut Tigers 3-1 Sunday in a New York-Penn. League baseball game.
The Tigers (24-29) got their only run in the top of the seventh when Patrick Smith doubled home Jake Stewart. Danry Vasquez and Stewart had two hits each for the Tigers.
Cameron Edman homered in the eighth for Aberdeen (23-31).
Stewart hit a two-run home run as Connecticut beat Aberdeen 3-1 Saturday night. Jared Reaves doubled and scored for the Tigers and Ramon Lebron allowed just one hit over 3 2-3 innings with three strikeouts and a walk to pick up his first win of the season.
Montville fall sports
• There will be three sessions of registration to play fall sports at Montville, beginning Monday, Aug. 20 from noon-5 p.m. The other sessions are Thursday, Aug. 23 (3-5 p.m.) and Saturday, Aug. 25 (8-10 a.m.). All three sessions will be at the high school's main office. Registrants need to bring a copy of a current physical form (within 13 months) and a signed parent permission form. Both forms are available in the main office.
Practice begins Monday, Aug. 20 for football (all players, including freshmen) at 5:15 p.m. Boys' and girls' cross country begins Saturday, Aug. 25 on the track at 2 p.m., boys' soccer is Saturday, Aug. 25 at 8 a.m.; girls' soccer is Saturday, Aug. 25 at 11 a.m., and volleyball is Saturday, Aug. 25 in the gymnasium at noon.
