Connecticut’s statewide tax-free week began last Sunday and will run until August 25. Since its first year of operation in 2001, the program has given back-to-school shoppers an opportunity to save money as purchases of most clothing and footwear, when sold for less than $300, are exempt from state sales tax. Tax-free week is sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services and does not permit tax exclusions on jewelry, handbags, accessories, or clothing and footwear designed specifically for athletic use.
