With summer nearly over, Guilford Parks & Recreation Department is holding its last summer concert on the Town Green on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 6:30 p.m. The event will bring the Rick Larrimore and Blondes Have More Fun band back to Guilford. Parks & Recreation Director Rick Maynard said Larrimore's characteristics, from looks to personality, vocals to charm, are nearly identical to the rock and roll star Rod Stewart.

"We had Rick about five years ago and he drew a really big crowd. The guy looks like Rod Stewart, sounds like him, talks like him, acts like him, and you would think it's Rod Stewart that's there," Maynard said. "He goes down into the audience and mingles with the crowd? He's very good."

Maynard said he expects to see a large crowd for the department's last concert of the year. Residents are always encouraged to arrive shortly before the concert for parking and to ensure a good seat as well as to bring a picnic, blanket, or lawn chair for the entertainment-filled, free evening.

The Parks & Recreation Department sponsors several concerts on the Green every summer. Some of this year's shows included the Larry Stevens Band, the Shoreline Jazz Collective, and most recently American Idol's Nadia Turner, who returned for the second year to Guilford.

With the success and well-attended crowds of this summer's concerts, Maynard is hopeful residents will attend the department's last sponsored summer concert of 2012.

"Rick [Larrimore] is really good and provides very high level entertainment and has a good band behind him so hopefully well get a big crowd because he does a great job," Maynard stated.

The rain location is the Nathanael B. Greene Community Center on 32 Church Street. For more information about the concert and the band, call the Guilford Parks & Recreation Department at 203-453-8068.
