Norwich – The Post 9/11 Memorial Committee will hold a steak dinner fundraiser at the Comfort Inn and Suites at 275 Otrobando Ave. Sept. 16 to raise money for a proposed memorial to Norwich residents killed in wars since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The committee is working to dedicate a memorial in honor of Jacob Martir and Keith Heidtman, two Norwich residents killed in action in Iraq. The memorial will be designed to include any other Norwich residents killed in the global war on terror.
The steak dinner will run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept 15. Tickets are being sold for a $20 donation at Aces Bar in the Comfort Inn and Suites or by calling (860) 822-8413.
“We are eager to work with any organization that can help us accomplish our goal,” Memorial Committee Chairman Dennis Baptiste said. “With the support of the community we hope to have an extremely successful event.”
The memorial is planned to be installed at Chelsea Parade and will include the “fallen soldier” image. The committee has solicited city educational institutions for design ideas.
Anyone wishing to make a donation to the memorial may send a check to the city treasurer. The check should be payable to “The City of Norwich” with “Post 9/11 memorial fund” in the memo.
