Alleged drunken driver crashes into pole in Ledyard

Ledyard — Police said Pumpkin Hill Road was closed Thursday afternoon for a short period of time after an alleged drunken driver crashed into a utility pole near Lambtown Road.

Following the 1 p.m. crash, police charged William Idarola, 65, of Baltic with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to carry proper insurance and failure to drive right.

Police said Idarola’s 2011 Toyota Camry sustained heavy damage.
