New London — An incident this evening at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital led to a lockdown that lasted 2½ hours.
The incident occurred near the emergency room, according to hospital spokesman Mike O'Farrell. Those involved fled the hospital, he said, and police were called to investigate.
O'Farrell could not provide details on the incident.
The lockdown order was issued at 6:15 p.m. and was lifted at 8:45 p.m., he said.
"A lockdown happens anytime there's a concern, obviously, for the safety of patients and staff," he said.
New London Police Deputy Chief Peter Reichard could not immediately be reached for more information.
