Storrs – University of Connecticut police said Saturday night that a reported sexual assault of a female on campus did not occur.

"During the subsequent investigation, detectives reviewed security camera footage and conducted follow up interviews with the complainant and have learned that the complainant falsely reported the assault," a press release from UConn's Division of Public Safety reads in part.

The woman had originally reported that she was assaulted in the area of North Eagleville Road and Glenbrook Road early Saturday. She told police she was hit in the head with a skateboard and was then sexually assaulted.

As a result of that report, UConn Police issued an alert on the university's emergency alert notification system.

Though police said the claims in this case were unfounded, police continue to encourage community members to report any suspicious activity promptly.
