Montville - A local man suffered a severe leg injury when his motorcycle was struck by a Jeep Wrangler Friday evening on Route 163 at the Interstate 395 entrance ramp, police said.
Police said Mark Richardson, 50, of 65 Simpson Lane, Oakdale, was riding a 1991 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Route 163 at 6:38 p.m. Friday, when a 2000 Jeep Wrangler driven by Brian N. Forsyth, 21, of 46 Bush Hill Drive, Niantic attempted to turn left onto the I-395 ramp.
The Jeep struck the motorcycle, ejecting Richardson from the bike into a wooded area. He was taken first to The William W. Backus Hospital and then flown by Life Star helicopter to Hartford Hospital with a severe leg injury.
Police said the Jeep fled the scene and was later located in Niantic.
No charges have been filed in the motorcycle accident, which remains under investigation by Montville police.
But police arrested Forsyth for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs stemming from a separate incident.
Anyone with information on the motorcycle accident is asked to contact Officer Rod McCauley at Montville police at (860) 848-7510.
