Norwich - Joe Rogers pitched three scoreless innings of relief and Juaner Aguasvivas drove in the only run as the Connecticut Tigers edged the Lowell Spinners 1-0 on Saturday night in the New York-Penn League.
The game was played before 1,844 fans at Dodd Stadium and featured three rain delays totaling 66 minutes.
Aguasvivas hit a sacrfice fly in the seventh inning for the Tigers (34-39) after Zach Kirksey led off the inning with a walk, stole second and moved to third on an infield out before Aquasvivas drove in the game's lone run.
Rogers (2-1) went the final three innings to earn the win for Connecticut, which plays its final home game of the season today against the Spinners (34-38) at 4 p.m.
Men's soccer
• Frank Williams, Zachary Simmons and Michael Berthiaume each scored goals for Mitchell College in a 3-0 victory over Anna Maria in the opener for both teams. Mitchell led 2-0 at halftime and scored again in the 83rd minute when Berthiaume put back a rebound. Ramazan Sinani made five saves in the victory.
• Walter Heaney scored a pair of goals as Coast Guard Academy cruised to a 3-0 victory over Southern Maine. Greg Kennerley also scored for the Bears (1-1), who outshot Southern Maine 20-3, while goalie Rich Burns did not have to make a save in earning the shutout.
College volleyball
• Coast Guard lost all four matches, including three to teams ranked in the top 15 nationally, during the Elmhurst Invitational in Elmhurst, Ill. After losing to No. 11 Elmhurst 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-21) and No. 15 Chicago 3-1 (25-16, 23-35, 25-19, 25-22) on Friday night, the Bears were beaten by St. Norbert 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 27-25, 25-11) and No. 12 Carthage 3-1 (25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 25-23). All for opponents played in the NCAA Division III tournament in 2011.
