New London – Police said a 33-year-old man did not suffer life-threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon after he was assaulted by multiple suspects and hit in the head with a pipe.

Police said the 4:05 p.m. attack, in the area of Hempstead and Manwaring streets, was in retaliation for a previous incident, and that the victim and his attackers knew each other. The victim was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for treatment, police said.

Police did not release the names of the suspects or victim and said the investigation is ongoing.
