New London – Police said a man wanted by Stonington police was arrested Tuesday night in New London after he fled and then struggled with officers.

After the 10:30 p.m. incident, police charged Wayne Williams, 24, of no certain address with first-degree burglary, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, interfering with an officer and assault on an officer.

Police said officers learned Tuesday afternoon that Williams, who was wanted in Stonington on a parole violation, was at 1 Farnsworth Ave. When officers went there, police said, Williams fled the home through a window. He was apprehended after a brief foot chase, police said, which ended in a struggle as officers attempted to take Williams into custody.

Police said Tammy Wheeler, 42, of 1 Farnsworth Ave. attempted to intervene and was charged with interfering with an officer.

Williams was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
